Frameworks, Frameworks, Everywhere…

I read this week that great Leadership is all about Management and Governance, which may intrinsically spark a separate debate – however it got me thinking about governance and frameworks.

On LinkedIn, someone had started a thread about why companies were not using COBIT vs ITIL and there are regularly posts in my feed about VeriSM, SIAM, Lean, Agile, DevOps and others. There is a whole world of expertise that exists to try and better manage IT services as business and technology evolves. There are experts, forums, groups, trade bodies, accrediting bodies, exams, books – all pushing their particular framework onto the world of IT.

What I see in reality within organisations I’ve worked in, is very little top down influence over the structure and implementation of any of these approaches with a specific vision for the desired outcome.

ITIL, COBIT, IT4IT, SIAM, DevOps, Agile, Lean, VeriSM – the concepts are often used and clearly understood by industry ‘experts’ but perhaps with little understanding by industry practitioners of the benefit they were designed to bring.

I still speak to clients regularly who are either just getting on board with ITIL or are completely oblivious to its existence, but perception seems to be that it is ‘mature’.

So, I decided that perhaps in support of some of our clients (and those we don’t yet know) we should start to explore and question the purpose, value and benefits of these different approaches.

Straight From the Horses Mouth

So, from next month Bright Horse will be running a feature called ‘Straight From the Horses Mouth’ and we will be speaking to industry experts to try and facilitate better understanding for the wider industry practitioners.

First up, in April, an interview with Claire Agutter (@claireagutter), Chief Architect IFDC (International Foundation for Digital Competences) about VeriSM. VeriSM shows organisations how they can adopt a range of management practices in a flexible way to deliver the right product or service at the right time to their users. It was ‘Developed to support Service Management in the Digital Age…’.

We look forward to speaking with Claire and exploring who is behind the new approach and what all of that means for IT professionals, teams and organisations alike.

Industry Experts

We will be interviewing industry experts over the coming months about a range of subjects to offer some clarity and understanding of what these frameworks bring to the table.

If you know of anyone who would like to be interviewed, would like to be interviewed or you have something you want to know about – please get in touch.
